A Letter from Jerry & Vanessa
Thank you for taking the time to get to know us. We’re a happy, fun, Christian family of three who loves to be outside, help others, and make memories together. We are excited to welcome a second child into our family and look forward to playing outside, hanging out with family and friends, and taking care of our farm animals together. We have been married for 12 years now and continue to build our lives on the family farm that we love. We can hardly wait to expand our family with another child.
Our passion for agriculture brought us together and we now raise cows and grow hay on the family farm. After we were married we experienced infertility and felt led to growing our family through adoption. We were blessed in 2017 to adopt our wonderful daughter, Mia. She is 4 years old now and is such a joy! Being parents is truly a greater gift than we ever dreamed. We send regular email updates that include photos to her birth mom. When her birth mother replies, we save those messages so we can share them with Mia as she grows up.
We can often be found outside playing hide-and-seek, blowing bubbles, and walking to the creek. We have cookouts and hayrides with family and friends throughout the year and are also Youth leaders at our church. We look forward to growing as a family and sharing our love for the outdoors and our farm with our children.
Jerry makes everyone feel like an old friend. He has a big heart, and his wonderful smile welcomes everyone he meets. He is loving, caring, and has a witty sense of humor and a distinctive, infectious laugh. Jerry is a fantastic cook and likes to grill steaks, hamburgers, and veggies whenever given the chance. The family often requests that he make the holiday ham because it is so good!
Jerry is a wonderful father and I love to watch him teach Mia about the farm (like showing her how to feed the cows), how to play basketball, and show her how to throw, catch, and hit a baseball or softball. He is so excited to share his love of the farm and games with our second child!
Vanessa’s career combines her passion for public relations and agriculture. You’ll often find her playing Barbie dreamhouse or singing along to songs with Mia. Vanessa encourages and supports those who may need an extra dash of confidence, and people know they can count on her.
Vanessa loves reading, cooking, and looking for a good photo opportunity. She also loves to write and keeps a journal for Mia to remember the funny things she has said when she was little. She has already started a journal for our second child to show how excited we are to have him or her join our family. Vanessa sees a story in everything around her. She hopes to write a children’s book in the coming years about Mia and her favorite brown cow. Vanessa looks forward to reading to our next child, teaching them how to cook and bake, and playing games together as a family of four.
Our wonderful daughter, Mia, was adopted in 2017 and loves to move! She loves to be outside playing with our dog, blowing bubbles, and riding her tricycle. She likes to check on the cows, stomp in mud puddles and dress up like a princess. She loves to play with other kids and always takes time to help the younger ones. She will make an amazing big sister.
Our family and friends are so excited for us to welcome a second child into the family. They are all excited to shower our second child with love. Though Jerry’s parents have passed away, we live close to his sister and to childhood friends who are like family! From holidays to weekend get-togethers, we love getting together with them and their kids. Vanessa’s family lives in Missouri, and we talk to her parents weekly and visit regularly. Christmas is filled with games and laughter.
Our home is part of our family history: Jerry’s grandparents built it in 1938 and we love it. It’s a modest, three-bedroom house with an inviting front porch and large yard. With wide-open spaces on the farm, we have a lot of room to play and explore. We are working on the nursery room and look forward to decorating it according to what our second child likes! When inside, we spend our time in the family room where we laugh, play games, and tell each other stories. We also like to enjoy the beautiful Tennessee air from our front porch.
We are so excited and ready to welcome your child into our home and give him or her all the love that we can. We promise to laugh often and love always. We’ll provide them with the best education possible while teaching them to follow their dreams, to show compassion for others, and how to care for animals. We are open to letters, photos, and annual visits, and we look forward to learning more about you.

More About Our Family
MIA AS A BIG SISTER
Mia loves to talk about having a baby brother or sister and is eager to teach her sibling how to be kind to others, how to share toys, cook and – her favorite – how to jump in mud puddles so you make a big splash. She is ready to show her sibling around the farm and her favorite places to play.
FAMILY TIME, FUN TIME
We live in a beautiful part of Tennessee that is full of fun family opportunities. We love to take our time and enjoy all the family events our area has to offer – especially the local zoo! We love to visit the zoo where we saw lions and tigers up close and were fascinated by the monkeys swinging overhead. We like animals of all kinds, and so we also enjoy seeing the sharks, octopus, and alligators at the aquarium. Taking time to focus on our family is important to us. We look forward to returning to the zoo and aquarium as a family of four soon.
MORE ABOUT OUR FAMILY AND FRIENDS
Vanessa grew up with her brother and two sisters. Although we live far apart, we remain very close. We stay connected through FaceTime, cards, and visits. Her family is so excited to welcome another child into the fold and already have begun making plans for visits.
We live close to Jerry’s childhood friends, whom we consider family. They have several children with whom Mia loves to play. They are a fun, energetic, adventurous family who likes to spend time outdoors, to camp and to build things. We spend most holidays with them as well as attend church with them. With Jerry’s parents’ passing, his friends’ parents are parental figures for him and consider Mia their grandchild.
OUR YOUTH GROUP
As the youth leaders, we try to make memorable moments with the Youth whether it’s at our weekly lessons on Wednesday or during our annual mission trip. We’ve built new floors, laid hardwood and tile, painted walls and so much more. Most of all, each trip gives our Youth a chance to learn about other cultures and become closer to one another.
Our small town is quite active with July 4 festivities, Halloween trick-or-treating downtown, and an annual Christmas parade. Kids love to go because they walk away with a sack full of candy! Our churches work on Vacation Bible School experiences throughout the summer. It’s common to see youth groups, cheer teams, and sports teams hosting car washes at local businesses. Our area has many good schools, including several college options. We enjoy living in a small town while taking advantage of the opportunities of two larger cities nearby. We believe this is a perfect place for our family, and we look forward to sharing our community with another child.
