You might feel an urgency to make a decision, any decision. With an adoption plan there are many small decisions that go along with it. It’s not always the easiest at the start. If you feel you need more time, you just need to ask for it.
Ask yourself – what is it I need to know to make a decision one way or another? There is help and information that can help answer questions. Speaking to a counselor might help, but none of them can tell you what decision to make for you.
You shouldn’t feel pressure from anyone, a family member, the baby momma, no one can feel what you’re feeling. They have their own feelings of sadness, guilt and frustration too. No one should pressure you into making a decision on the spot. You will want to learn as much as you can about adoption early on in the pregnancy to be able to make a decision before the birth.
Knowledge will make everything smoother and a sense of calm and empowerment will help you with your decision. Others can help you sort through your different options as well as get you answers to your questions. Make a list of questions you have on your phone or you can jot down as you think of them. Then call and ask until you get the answers you need to make the decision.
